Vessels-visiting-Australia-need-BPLThe Australian Department of Agriculture has issued notice affecting internartional vessel master and shipping agents regarding vessels visiting Australia from New Zealand. These vessels will be risk assessed for Burn Pine Longicorn (BPL) from December 10, 2013.

The risk assessments will be specific to:

  • Cruise vessels
  • Container vessels
  • Cargo vessels
  • Bulk carrier vessels
  • Tanker vessels

The Maritime National Co-ordination Centre will request the vessel Master to complete a BPL questionnaire after submission of the Quarantine Pre Arrival Report.

Vessel Masters and crew are requested to remain vigilant for BPL before they reach Australia. The detection and accurate reporting of BPL prior to arrival will greatly assist in identifying mitigation strategies that may be undertaken pre-arrival reducing the level of intervention that maybe otherwise required on arrival.
