The Pan Viva, a 738-foot cargo ship, left for its next port of call to Washington State after weathering a storm near Unalaska on 14 October.
The U.S. Coast Guard lifted an order that had kept the vessel anchored due to extreme weater. According to local news, a pilot boarded the ship to guide it closer to Summer Bay, where four crew members, evacuated as a precaution, rejoined the ship. Two tugboats assisted in the process.
The Pan Viva is still without its starboard anchor, which it lost on Sunday near Constantine Bay, though the port anchor was successfully retrieved on Monday.
During the weekend, rough seas and strong winds caused the port anchor to drag along the seafloor, collecting old fishing gear and debris before it was secured. Jim Butler, a liaison officer with the Anchorage-based Unified Command, confirmed that neither the retrieved nor the lost anchor affected the nearby GCI Aleutians-AU fiber optic cable.
Originally traveling from China to Washington via the Great Circle route, the Pan Viva had to change course due to bad weather.
