The US Coast Guard responded to a grounded vessel in the Lower Mississippi River near New Orleans, on Friday, January 4. The UK-flagged Anglo Alexandria had grounded in the Mississippi River at mile marker 3.5.
When the 837-foot UK-flagged deep-draft vessel Anglo Alexandria grounded in the Mississippi River, it was blocking the navigation channel. A tug went on-scene, while the river was closed at mile marker 3.5. The vessel had activated their Vessel Response Plan.
More than 50 vessels were waiting in queue to transit in or out of the river. This number is larger than normal due to dense fog in the area over the last few days.
Now, according to reports, the Mississippi River has reopened after the refloating of the bulk carrier.
There are no current reports of pollution or injuries, while authorities will investigate the cause of the accident.
