The US Coast Guard responded to an oil spill near port Arthur, in Texas, caused from a collision between an offshore supply vessel and a tug vessel, near the entrance to Sabine Pass, Texas.
Specifically, the two vessels involved in the collision were the offshore supply vessel Cheramie Botruc 22 and tug vessel Mariya Moran.
The USCG reports that the collision resulted to about 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel spill.
In light of the oil spill incident and the importance of dealing with oil spills, personnel from Coast Guard Station Sabine, Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur, Texas General Land Office, Oil Spill Removal Organization, OMI Environmental Solutions and Environmental Safety and Health were launched to the scene and confirmed that one of the vessel’s fuel tanks had been impacted.
Consequently, the personnel secured the source of the release and managed to contain the spill.
Moreover, they placed boom and sorbent material around the vessel to prevent any potential oil spill and pollution, while the vessel remains anchored off the channel.
For the time being, the USCG investigate the cause of the collision, and report no injuries.
