On Wednesday, the US Coast Guard rescued a 25-year-old seafarer from the water, 5 miles east of Port Everglades, after he went missing from the Liberian-flagged container ship ‘Vega Sagittarius’, which was moored in the port at the time. Rescued was Lorejei Moscoso, a Philippines national.
Namely, the crew of the 456-foot ship, moored in Port Everglades at approximately 6:40 a.m., notified the USCG Sector Miami watchstanders of a missing crewmember last seen at approximately 5:30 a.m.
The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to search.
The helicopter crew located the missing crewmember and directed the boatcrew to his location. The boatcrew transferred the man to awaiting emergency medical services.
