The US Coast Guard announced that Liberia is now a safe port for vessels to call, as after recent assessments it was observed that the Republic of Liberia is implementing effective terrorism measures.
To remind, in 2005 the USCG issued a Notice announcing the implementation of conditions of entry for the Republic of Liberia, after it was determined that there were not any effective anti-terrorism measures in place in the ports. Accordingly, conditions of entry were imposed on vessels that visited the Republic of Liberia in their last five port calls.
In addition, in June 2020, the coast guard published the marine notice 1-20 presenting which countries are not in line with anti-terrorism measures and which countries are affected. Specifically, Liberia was among those affected, with the exception of Port of Monrovia.
Now, the coast guard conducted an additional assessment in 2018 which revealed that the Republic of Liberia was in line with the measures needed to fight terrorism. Consequently, the USCG removed all the conditions of entry announced in the previously published Notice.
Thus, with this notice, the current list of countries assessed and not maintaining effective anti-terrorism measures is as follows
- Cambodia
- Cameroon
- Comoros
