The US Coast Guard Marine Safety Center received its 15th application for type approval for the HiBallast Ballast Water Management System, manufactured by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.
MSC will review the application for compliance with U.S. Coast Guard regulations in 46 CFR 162.060. Once it has been determined that the application meets the requirements, the MSC will issue a type approval certificate.
On May 11 2018, the USCG received its 14th application for the OceanGuard BWMS, manufactured by Headway Technology. The 13th application was received in April by Wärtsilä Water Systems, while two more applications, by JFE Engineering Corporation and Panasia Co, were received in March.

So far, Techcross (Republic of Korea), Optimarin (Norway), Alfa Laval (Sweden), TeamTec Ocean Saver (Norway), Sunrui (China), Ecochlor (USA) and Erma First (Greece) have won the USCG type approval.
During the last GREEN4SEA Conference, Mr. Juha Kiukas, Sales Director, Trojan Marinex, noted that the BWMS market is currently becoming more mature and around 20 Type Approvals may be expected up to 2019.
