The United States Coast Guard (USCG) has officially approved ABS Wavesight’s eLogs software for deployment on U.S.-flagged ships, designating ABS Wavesight as one of just three approved maritime software providers under USCG NVIC 01-23.
ABS Wavesight’s eLogs software provides a digital alternative to traditional paper logbooks, aiming to offer a solution to address the challenges faced by crew members, including user errors, administrative burdens, and security concerns. According to ABS, the software includes logbooks required by MARPOL, SOLAS, and BWM Convention principles.
The US Coast Guard (USCG) had announced since 2020 that it would permit vessels to electronically record discharges, transfers, and other reportable operations required under Annexes I, II, V and VI in Electronic Record Books (ERB). IMO’s MEPC 74 had adopted amendments to MARPOL Annexes I, II, V, VI and the NOx Technical Code regarding the use of electronic record books, approved as alternative of hard copy record books under the MARPOL Convention. Namely, the adopted resolutions are as follows:
- Resolution MEPC.312(74) – Guidelines for the use of Electronic Record Books under MARPOL
- Resolution MEPC.314(74) – Amendments to MARPOL Annexes I, II and V (Electronic Record Books)
- Resolution MEPC.316(74) – Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI (Electronic Record Books and EEDI regulations for ice-strengthened ships)
- Resolution MEPC.317(74) – Amendments to the NOx Technical Code 2008 (Electronic Record Books and Certification requirements for SCR systems)
ABS Wavesight is also a nominee for the SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award, for its Nautical Systems Voyage Manager. The SMART4SEA Energy Efficiency Award is to be awarded to an organization that provided a significant achievement, breakthrough or contribution in any aspect of energy efficiency in shipping.
