The US Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) along with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) agreed to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in order to refine and reduce the permit application review process for LNG facilities.
In an attempt to promote the uptake of LNG, the US Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) along with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) will sign an MoU, which will reduce the time needed to review LNG facilities.

The MoU will clarify each agency’s role in the process for potential LNG projects, and add procedures into the FERC’s authorization process to leverage PHMSA’s safety expertise to evaluate potential impact to public safety.
The MoU was announced by FERC Chairman Kevin McIntyre during opening remarks for the July 19 Commission meeting at FERC headquarters.
Its signature will be announced at a later date.
