The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) announced that it reached an agreement that may provide a path forward for consideration of LNG export terminals that are pending before the Commission.
In the context of the Commission’s approval of Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG export project in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, the Commission applied a new approach for consideration of direct greenhouse gas emissions from LNG facilities.

FERC Chairman Neil Chatterjee, stated:
Since I joined the Commission, it’s been a priority of mine to expedite and improve our LNG terminal application review process. I’m extremely pleased that we are issuing the certificate order for the Calcasieu Pass LNG export terminal today. This facility will have the capacity to export 12 million metric tons of US LNG per year
Mr. Chatterjee also added that they signed an MoU with the US Department of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, to reduce bureaucracy and inter-agency friction with federal partners. The MoU also increased the number of engineers working on reviews by casting a wide net to capture talent.
