The Ukrainian government has published a list of 31 ship captains it alleges are engaged in the theft of Ukrainian grain from ports in occupied Crimea.
According to the data most of the individuals are identified as Russian nationals, although some were born in Ukraine. Additionally, one captain hails from Moldova and another from Syria. Several bulk carriers are noted to have multiple captains.
Overall, Ukraine’s list includes 407 ships, which it claims are involved in transporting weapons, stolen Ukrainian goods, and evading sanctions.
To remind, BIMCO and Filipe Gouveia, Shipping Analyst examined the impact of the fact that since September 2024, five merchant ships had been hit by Russian missiles while in Ukrainian ports or waters.
