UK’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA) launched a competition for proposals that can provide future offshore wind farm mitigation for UK Air Defence surveillance.
Specifically, the GBP 2 million innovation competition has set its goals in reducing and removing the impact of wind farms on UK’s Air Defence systems to boost green energy growth and includes alternative technologies that will either fill or extinct the gaps in radar coverage.

In light of this, UK’s Defence Minister Jeremy Quin commented that the defence technologies play a crucial role in today’s demands in the UK, including the fight against the climate change.
Concerning climate change and the UK’s perspective, in September 2019, the UK Chamber of Shipping’s Chief Executive, Bob Sanguinetti, emphasized on climate change as the biggest challenge of today’s society and underlined the need for the UK to seize the opportunities going forward and work in closer partnership with the sector to meet its zero carbon emissions targets.

The competition will close on April 7 and DASA expects multiple proposals to be funded with up to GBP 2 million available in total from the BEIS Energy Innovation Programme.
