Nautilus urges members to take part in UK shipping review
The UK government has launched a major public consultation on future policy and support measures for British shipping and seafarers. Nautilus is urging members to play a full part in the initiative.
The six-week consultation is seeking evidence from all in the maritime sector on what the government can do to keep British shipping internationally competitive. The Maritime Growth Study will examine issues including maritime education and skills, ship ownership and financing, and the government’s administration of maritime activities such as ship registration.
The review is due to be completed by the summer and will identify potential areas of growth, together with recommendations for the government on ways to boost the maritime sector.
Nautilus general secretary Mark Dickinson commented: “This is a very important development and offers us all an opportunity to help shape the future of our industry.
“If you care about the future of British shipping and seafaring and believe that the government should invest more in our maritime skills, it is vital that you take part in this consultation and ensure that it receives input from maritime professionals.”
The call for evidence closes on Friday 27 February. Full details are available at : UK government Maritime Growth Study Call for Evidence website, and you can take part in the associated survey .
