Greek ferry Superferry II collided in Philippines
A passenger ship and a cargo ship collided at Lawis Ledge in Talisay City, Cebu early Thursday morning.
The M/V Super Ferry 2 was plying from Nasipit, Agusan del Norte when it collided with the M/V General Romulo of NMC shipping.
All 520 passengers of the M/V Super Ferry were reported to be safe. No crew members of M/V Gen. Romulo were harmed.
Initial investigations of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Central Eastern Visayas Detachment revealed that both ships entered the Lawis Ledge at the same time and eventually collided.
Lawis Ledge is a narrow channel which serves as a point of entry for all vessels from Mindanao bound for Cebu.
Commander Anelito Gabisan, spokesperson of PCG Central Eastern Visayas Detachment said investigations pertaining the incident are being conducted.
He added that both ship captains have been asked to submit their marine protest before they can leave the ports of Cebu.
