Two new bodies recovered have been identified to be missing crew members of the Dominican-registered dredger ‘JBB DE RONG 19′, after it collided with ‘KARTIKA SEGARA’ tanker, in Singapore territorial waters, on 13 September 2017.
The collision between the dredger and the Indonesian-registered tanker took place in the westbound lane of the Traffic Separation Scheme (TSS) in the Singapore Strait.
According to data provided by MPA Singapore, at the time of the incident, JBB DE RONG 19 was carrying 12 crew members onboard, seven of whom were rescued, two were found dead following the accident, and three were unaccounted for.
The two new bodies bring the total number of recovered crewmen to four. The last crew member remains missing.
The tanker’s 26 Indonesian crew did not sustain any injuries.
“The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore will continue to issue safety broadcasts to ships in the area to keep a lookout for the last crew member,” MPA said.
