The Turkish company, LNG Gaz Üretim Depolama ve Satış, received the permission by the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority to go through with the country’s first onshore LNG production and storage. The facility will be located in the Anatolian regions.
The project will be Turkey’s first attempt into LNG production and non-marine storage, but it will concern small volumes, Cevat Evliyaoğlu, the president of the company, was cited as saying by the state-run Anadolu Agency.

The facilities be producing 208 cubic meters of LNG per day and will be able to accommodate 2,000 cubic meters of LNG. The project will cost $35 million, and is expected to start in June, with its completion due in one and a half years. The Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EMRA) approved the project on May 3.
Turkey is currently trying to increase its natural gas storage capacity. For this reason, it opened a gas storage facility in 2017 and began storing gas offshore with Floating Storage Regasification Units (FSRU) in December 2016.
Moreover, Turkey launched the world’s largest FSRU in February. Turkey deployed its second FSRU at a port in Dortyol, Hatay, which is located in the Mediterranean region of Turkey. The FSRU has 20 million cubic meters of send-out capacity per day.
