Simulated grounding and evacuation of a cruise ship exercise
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) will be participating in Operation Nanook 2014 from 25-29 August 2014.
This is an annual exercise organized in Northern Canada by the Canadian Forces. This year’s exercise is taking place in the vicinity of Iqaluit, Nunavut and involves the simulated grounding and evacuation of a cruise ship.
With anticipated marine passenger and cargo service increasing in this region of Canada, it is important that the TSB is prepared to deploy for an investigation in this challenging environment.
In addition to testing the TSB’s ability to deploy and meet the challenges of working in the North, this exercise will test, assess, and improve communications and collaboration between federal departments and territorial/local agencies for emergency response.
