TotalEnergies has entered into a charter contract with Spanish shipowner Ibaizabal for a new Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) bunker vessel with a capacity of 18,600 m³.
This vessel aims to enhance TotalEnergies’ global presence in bunkering hubs, particularly in Oman, where the company is developing the Marsa LNG project to supply LNG to the shipping sector in the Gulf. The new vessel will cater to a diverse range of ships, including containerships, tankers, large cruise ships, and ferries, and will comply with stringent technical and environmental standards.
Currently under construction by Hudong–Zhonghua Shipbuilding in China, the vessel is expected to be delivered by the end of 2026, joining TotalEnergies’ existing fleet of three LNG bunker vessels: the Gas Agility in Rotterdam, the Gas Vitality in Marseille, and the Brassavola in Singapore.
Louise Tricoire, Senior Vice President of Aviation and Marine Fuels at TotalEnergies, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting the growing demand for LNG in the shipping industry to support global decarbonization efforts. Meanwhile, Jorge Zickermann, CEO of Ibaizabal Group, expressed pride in partnering with TotalEnergies for this project, aligning with their strategy to decarbonize the maritime sector.
To remind, SEA-LNG reported this month that that active LNG-fueled vessels now account for more than 2% of the global shipping fleet.
