TORM, a shipping company that owns and operates product tankers and is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, sets out to achieve a 40% CO2 emission reduction by 2025.
In its Annual Report for 2021, the Danish shipping company has announced its ambition to achieve a 40% CO2 emission reduction by 2025. This is 5 years ahead of the previous goal that the company has set before.
It is important to recall that in 2018, Member states at IMO MEPC 72 have adopted the so-called GHG initial strategy, envisaging a reduction in total GHG emissions from global shipping by at least 50% by 2050 compared to 2008.
This was considered as a landmark for the industry, which seeks to align with the Paris Agreement goals.
As described in the company’s report, for the long term, TORM has an ambition to have zero CO2 emissions from operating its fleet in 2050.
We have proudly set the goal to deliver on IMO’s 40% CO2 reduction target by 2025 – instead of 2030. A goal we aspire to reach through continuously working with new energy efficient solutions

It is noted that in 2021, TORM had signed the Call to Action for Shipping Decarbonization, which calls on the governments to take decisive actions to achieve decarbonization of international shipping by 2050.
