A Russian border patrol vessel was attacked by a North Korean vessel in the Sea of Japan, resulting to the injury of three Russian servicemen. Russia has detained two North Korean vessels that were in Russian territorial waters, according to TASS, the Russian state news outlet.
The FSB Russian security bureau stated that the Russian border patrol held up two North Korean vessels, confiscating one, among eleven motorboats that were reportedly poaching in the Russian EEZ.
In fact, the North Korean vessel’s 45 crewmembers carried out an armed attack against crew of the Russian border patrol; This resulted to three Russian crewmembers being injured.
Moreover, the Russian foreign ministry asked the North Korean ambassador to Moscow to issue a diplomatic complaint.
Overall, Russia and North Korea have in the past experienced tensions and diplomatic dispute, as in 2018 Russia called Seoul to allow a Russian vessel to leave South Korea’s port of Busan.
