Following successful testing of the SCR system on the test bench in Augsburg under the supervision ofDNV GL, the field trial of the combined engine and SCR system on the cargo vessel Petunia Seaways is now planned as the next step.
In this context MAN Diesel & Turbo has technical responsibility for the entire system with regard to system dimensioning, component choice, planning, sourcing, logistics, installation and commissioning so that all the necessary activities can be carried out on the Petunia Seaways.
This presented a special challenge in the shape of extensive modification work on the engine and exhaust system, which had to be coordinated on the ship under enormous time pressure and with the involvement of numerous specialist departments and outside firms.
The aim was to interfere with the itinerary of the Petunia Seaways (Gothenburg-Brevik-Immingham) as little as possible, which meant that just a few days were available for vital welding in the engine room and on the exterior of the hull.
