The Nautical Institute (Singapore Branch) announced its annual conference, to be held on Wednesday, 21 August 2024, at the Grand Copthorne Waterfront Singapore.
As explained, building on the success of last year’s event, this year’s conference promises to be an exceptional gathering of maritime professionals from around the region.
The conference will once again welcome Teo Eng Dih, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), as the esteemed Guest of Honour.
The conference will focus on ‘Charting a Greener World – Dealing with Sustainability, Emergency Preparedness, and Seafarer Wellbeing,’ addressing critical issues and opportunities in the maritime industry amidst a global push towards sustainability and technological innovation. The comprehensive program will feature discussions on:
- Managing the Green Wave: Crew risks related to renewable energy and autonomous shipping, reflecting the industry’s move towards greener
technologies. - Emergency Preparedness: Challenges with alternative fuels, EV shipments, hazardous cargoes, and liability issues, in light of recent high-profile incidents
and regulatory changes. - The Changing World: Issues affecting seafarers, including involuntary crew contract extensions, treatment during incidents, seafarers’ rights and welfare,
and ensuring a diverse, skilled future crew, in the context of rising global attention on mental wellness and seafarers’ rights.
The conference will delve into trending topics such as decarbonization, digitalization, and diversity within the maritime sector. These themes are increasingly relevant as the industry faces mounting pressure to reduce its carbon footprint, adopt cutting-edge technologies, and foster an inclusive workforce. Don’t miss this opportunity to engage with industry leaders and shape the future of maritime practices.
The annual conference of The Nautical Institute (Singapore Branch) had grown from strength to strength since its inception in 2017. Given the topics to be discussed duly supported by a sterling lineup of expert speakers and our fantastic audience, I am confident that this year too it will be extremely engaging and thought provoking.
