Ten crew members were reported missing, after a bulk carrier was attacked by six pirates, while underway, around 32 nautical miles South of Brass, Nigeria.
The vessel, the name of which is not yet identified, was boarded by six pirates from a small boat, on 14 December, according to data provided by IMB Piracy Reporting Centre.
The remaining crew onboard sailed the vessel to a safe port.
An investigation has been launched, Dryad Maritime informed.
At the same day, around 19 nm South of Brass, four to five persons in a wooden boat approached and tried to board a general cargo ship underway. In this case, the Master increased speed and took anti-piracy measures, so that the ship evaded the boarding.
In 2017, Nigeria took the lead when it came to piracy attacks and crew kidnapping, with the situation remaining particularly risky in the Niger Delta, despite a general progress in piracy rates compared to the same period in 2016, according to IMB’s latest report.
