Focus on sustainable practices
Teekay has issued its Sustainability Report for 2013 to evaluate company’s performance according to People, Planet and Profit. The report is a snapshot of Teekay’s ongoing focus and commitment to sustainable practices.
Teekay 2013 at a glance
According to Peter Evensen, President and CEO of Teekay, the company had another amazing year of business-as they celebrated their 40-year anniversary, and also Teekay celebrated thesafest year in terms of Lost Time Injury (LTI) withzero fatalities and three LTIs. ‘‘We put safety first. We consider people, planetand profit in all of our decisions and actions.We contribute to a sustainable business,environment and community. This Sustainability Report shares how we are delivering on thatmandate. We received the NAMEPA 2013 Marine Environment ProtectionAward for our efforts to preserve the marine environment, ourcommitment to high-quality operational standards and constantlydelivering on our promise as a team.”

Commitment to environmental sustainability
Teekay has committed to environmental sustainability by implementing environmentallysound initiatives in their offices, having staff everywhere pledge to use environmentallyfriendly practices and using technology to continually lessen their vessels’ impact on theenvironment.
Teekay supports environmental sustainability programs by ensuring that the company meets and exceeds environmental requirements. Company’s Health, Safety, Environment, Quality and Security policysupports this by setting commitments for zero oil spills and minimizing the impact of ouroperations on the environment.Although they are proud of their environmental achievements, they recognize that there isalways room to do more.Through responsible safety and environmental practices, Teekay ensures compliance with legislation and with practices to further reduce their environmental footprint

Recycling of vessels
Asa part of its ongoing business, Teekay routinely renews its fleet andsells its older vessels to third parties. These vessels are sold ‘onthe water’ as fully operational vessels on industry standard termsthat are routinely used for the sale of second hand vessels, suchas the standard BIMCO “SALEFORM 1993” or “SALEFORM 2012″prepared by the Norwegian Shipbrokers Association.
Teekay iscontinually assessing how the company can best ensure it playsa responsible role in the value chain – building, operating andrecycling vessels in a safe and environmentally friendly way.
Environmental Impacts
Sustainability involves a commitment to responsible environmentalpractices, and an innovative approach to technology use andproject development. As a result of our focus on environmentalsustainability, Teekay has introduced many initiatives to reduce emissions and discharges to air, sea and land.
Discharges to Water In 2013, Teekay vessels discharged 75,569cubic meters of bilge, slop and soot water to sea. Our FPSO vesselsdischarged 36 cubic meters of oil in produced water in 2013, whichis more than a 60% reduction since 2010. Spills 175 million metric tonnes of cargo were carried on Teekayvessels in 2013. The total cargo lost to sea was 68 liters and toatmosphere (vented gas cargo and refrigerant) was 0.6 metric tonnes. Waste In 2013, Teekay vessels generated 11,186 cubic meters ofsolid waste. More than 64 percent of that was sent to shore facilitiesfor disposal or recycling. Approximately 30 percent was incineratedon-board, with the remaining five percent disposed of at sea inaccordance with MARPOL (the International Convention for thePrevention of Pollution from Ships). |
