The LPG tanker BW Maple collided with the Indian tanker MT Dawn Kancheepuram within the port of Kamarajar limits in Ennore early in the morning of January 28, local media reports.
The ships were being guided by tugs with pilots at the time. The incident happened about two nautical miles outside the harbour owing to “miscommunication” or “misjudgment.”
However, no injuries or environmental damage have been reported. Furthermore, the spill has been classified as small by local authorities.
Both vessels were afloat and anchored, and the accident did not affect the movement of ships, added the port officials.
Express that they had stationed a ‘containment boom’, a temporary floating barrier used to contain oil spills. Booms are used to reducing the possibility of polluting shorelines and other resources and to help make recovery easier.
