A trailing suction hopper dredger collided with a products tanker that was anchored at Malacca Anchorage, Malaysia, on October 2.
The dredger was heading from the Kota Laksamana land reclamation area to a sand extraction site at the Malacca port limit, when it collided with the tanker Strovolos.
At that time, the tanker was moored alongside a supply vessel. Because of the collission, the tanker sustained damage above the waterline on its portside hull and the cargo deck. As for the dredger, it did not sustain any damages.
What is more, no crew injuries or pollution were reported. The vessels remained stuck together for several hours before being separated.
According to information, repairs took place on the tanker, which then headed to Singapore. The dredger remains in Malaysia.
The Marine Department of Malaysia is investigating the incident, to find out its cause.
