Yemen’s Houthi movement said that it could attack warships and oil tankers from enemy countries, in retaliation against the closure of Yemeni ports by a Saudi-led military coalition earlier this month.

The US Maritime Administration issued an advisory recommending that US-flag commercial vessels avoid entering or loitering near Yemen’s Red Sea ports and that vessels transiting the area exercise special vigilance. US MARAD also warns U.S. flagged commercial vessels transiting the region to conduct a pre-voyage risk assessment.

President Trump signed, on March 7, a new Executive Order entitled "Protecting the Nation From Foreign Terrorist Entry Into The United States", which bans the entry to US for crewmembers from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen, unless they hold valid visas prior to March 16th. Also, they will not be able to obtain visas, until 90 days after March 16th.

Teekay’s LNG carrier Galicia Spirit came under attack by unknown assailants off the coast of Yemen close to the Bab al-Mandab waterway. This is the first attack reported on a commercial ship since July.
