World’s first Singapore-based MaritimeTech accelerator launched

Eastern Pacific Shipping and Techstars announced that they are to launch the world’s first global MaritimeTech startup accelerator, ‘EPS MaritimeTech Accelerator Powered’ by Techstars. This start-up accelerator, that will be based in EPS’s headquarters in Singapore, collaboration will be the first of its kind to target the maritime industry. The ‘EPS MaritimeTech Accelerator Powered’ aspires to mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs in the industry.

World’s first digital survey on container ship

Last week DNV GL and Klaveness Ship Management report that they conducted the world’s first digital survey on board the container ship MV Bardu. The survey gave full insights into the maintenance data from the vessel through live dashboards. The dashboard tells how many maintenance jobs MV Bardu has had in the last year and how many jobs where done before and after on due date.

New project eyes world’s first digital shipping company in 2019

Israel-based IoT solutions provider Loginno unveiled a plan to form the world’s first digital shipping company. Under its initiative ‘Contopia Factor’, the startup will select one organization to have its entire container fleet digitalized in 2019.

ISO issues first set of global standards for drones

As part of the increased use of drones worldwide, the ISO has published a draft version of the first ever set of standards for drone operations to apply globally, in a bid to make drone operations safer and more efficient. The rules are expected to be adopted worldwide in 2019 and to this end, ISO has invited professionals, academics and businesses to submit comments by 21 January.

Watch: First cruise ship completely designed in 3D begins voyage

Celebrity Edge, the first ship to be completely designed in 3D has already started its Translantic voyage this month. The vessel marks a turning point on ship design, as from the first sketches, every step was done in 3D. Celebrity Cruise officially took delivery of Celebrity Edge from the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France in November 2018. 

World’s first bunker delivery with blockchain technology completed

GoodFuels Marine and Blockchain Labs for Open Collaboration, have successfully completed the world’s first bunker delivery and transaction using blockchain technology. The delivery was made to a Samskip vessel through a Reinplus Vanwoerden bunker barge in Rotterdam on September 7th.

New hyperloop cargo systems to enable faster shipments

Dubai-based port operator DP World partnered with US-based Virgin Hyperloop One to launch DP World Cargospeed, a new global company intended to provide hyperloop-enabled cargo systems to support the fast, sustainable and efficient delivery of palletised cargo. This is the first initiative of its kind in the world.

GE, Noble launched world’s first digital rig

The Digital Rig solution, powered by GE’s Predix platform, deployed on the Noble Globetrotter I drilling vessel has been connected to all targeted control systems, including the drilling control network, the power management system and the dynamic positioning system.

China builds Asia’s first autonomous ship test area

China has initiated construction of Asia’s first testing facility for autonomous vessels in Zhuhai, Guangdong province, Saturday. The Wanshan Marine Test Field is a a 225 square nautical mile zone, where operators can test autonomous steering and obstacle avoidance. The test field will be the also the largest in the world.
