Captain Serena Melani will helm the newest cruise ship of the Miami-based cruise line Regent Seven Seas Cruises, the ‘Seven Seas Splendor’, becoming the first woman in cruise industry history to captain a new ocean cruise ship at launch, the company announced.
In early December, Celebrity Cruises held a naming ceremony for its newest ship ‘Celebrity Edge’. Celebrity Edge is the company’s first new ship in six years and first new ship series in more than a decade. The ship is known for promoting women in multiple roles onboard, as well as for the way the company’s CEO, Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, is working to boost women leadership in shipping industry.
Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship ‘Celebrity Edge’ was named by the Pakistani activist and youngest Nobel Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai, in a ceremony held Tuesday in Florida. Celebrity Edge is the company’s first new ship in six years and first new ship series in more than a decade. The ship’s highlight is that it has set a landmark with the major involvement of women in its development and manning.
