The video above, published by APM Terminals is focused on women in the shipping industry, as part of the terminal's efforts to construct an inclusive workplace in the terminal. The video presents several of the terminal’s female crane operators.

On the occasion of the Day of the Seafarer celebrated each year on 25th June, the IMO is calling on everyone in the maritime world and beyond to get onboard with this year's theme of gender equality and declare their support.

According to ILO, mandatory pregnancy testing is  now considered as a discriminatory practice. The Norwegian Seafarers Union played an important role to this achievement at the ILO to stop sexist discrimination.

USCG announced that it appointed the first active duty female maritime law enforcement specialist warrant officer. Namely, Chief Warrant Officer Amy Barringer made history June 1, 2019, when she became the first active duty female warrant officer in her specialty.

Helle Hammer, Managing Director in Cefor (The Nordic Association of Marine Insurers), has been awarded the LeaderShip Award 2019 by WISTA Norway. She was presented with the award in light in light of her important work in shaping the future of marine insurance as well as being a role model for women in the male-dominated shipping industry. 

The Founder of Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson, and Virgin Voyages President and CEO Tom McAlpin announced the appointment of Captain Wendy Williams as Master of Scarlet Lady, the cruise line's first ship. 

In line with IMO's World Maritime Day theme for 2019 'Empowering Women in the Maritime Community', ABS issued a video depicting few of the organization's female leaders discussing career advice for women pursuing a career in the maritime industry.

On the sidelines of ​Nor-Shipping exhibition last week in Oslo, IMO hosted a special event to highlight some of the challenges and the solutions around encouraging women to take up seafaring roles. This comes in line with IMO's enhanced efforts during the last year to empower women in the maritime community.

During the 'World Oceans Day', June 8, IMarEST announced the launch of IMarEST Women’s Network. The Network will be open to all members, both male and female; The inaugural meeting will take place on Tuesday, July 9 and participants are able to join either in person, or virtually. IMarEST by the launch of the Network boosts its idea of 'acting locally to succeed globally.'
