The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) and the International Maritime Organization (IMO) join forces for new video in celebration of this year’s theme for World Maritime Day ‘Empowering Women in the Maritime Community’, which is scheduled to be screened on Thursday September 26 at the IMO headquarters in London.
Celebrity Cruises published a video to promote gender equality and inform about its actions to achieve this goal. At the company, more than 22% of the bridge team are women, with this number increasing to 30% to its newest ship, Celebrity Edge.
The IMO published a new film, showing how IMO’s Women in Maritime programme is helping to support gender diversity in the maritime sector. As the video says, women are proving that, in today’s world, the maritime industries are for everyone. ‘It’s not about your gender, it’s about what you can do.’
The video above, published by APM Terminals is focused on women in the shipping industry, as part of the terminal’s efforts to construct an inclusive workplace in the terminal. The video presents several of the terminal’s female crane operators.
In line with IMO’s World Maritime Day theme for 2019 ‘Empowering Women in the Maritime Community’, ABS issued a video depicting few of the organization’s female leaders discussing career advice for women pursuing a career in the maritime industry.
Disney Cruise Line announced a new initiative to inspire the next generation of female leaders in the maritime industry by funding scholarships to empower girls and young women to pursue careers in the cruise industry.
In this video, female EMSA colleagues share their experiences in the context of the IMO’s ‘Empowering women in the maritime community’ theme for 2019. As Manuela Tomassini, Lawyer, said: ‘Excellence is not linked to gender, but opportunities need to be equal’. Speaking about their experiences on board, several EMSA female colleagues call women to follow their dreams and say that with the right tools they can achieve anything.
The video depicts the launch by the UK Department of Transport of Maritime 2050, the first long-term strategy for the UK’s maritime sector. Launched in January, this long-term strategy comes at a time when the UK faces intense competition from maritime nations in the Far East, Northern Europe, Gulf and North America.
Due to the International Women’s Day 2019, IMO highlights the position of women in the maritime sector. IMO launches a video trailer for a forthcoming film which will showcase success stories of how IMO’s Women in Maritime programme has positively affected women in ports, on the shoreside and on ships.
