Watch: Australia trials new Antarctic barges

Two new landing barges are launching in order to assist the work of Australia’s new icebreaker RSV Nuyina. The barges will be based onbroad the RSV Nuyina, along with three tenders to transfer the personnel and a scientific research tender.

The ‘Power’ FPSO hull (Floating production storage and offloading) floated out from dock of the COSCO’s shipyards in Zhoushan, China in September, about 10 months after first steel cut. Normally, the hull completion was expected to be complete in 12 months. 

‘Norwegian Encore’ to leave the dock within August

Norwegian shipbuilder Meyer Werft announced the imminent launch of Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest cruise ship, expected in the morning hours of 17 August 2019.  Once Norwegian Encore has left the dock, it will berth at the shipyard’s out-fitting pier to be fitted with its funnel cladding.

Watch: John F. Kennedy aircraft carrier sees upper bow lift installed

As the video presents, the US Navy’s aircraft carrier, John F. Kennedy, saw the installation of its final piece, conducted by Huntington Ingalls Industries. The upper bow part that is to be added on the vessel is one of the last steel structural units, also known as superlift, which weighs 780 tonnes and was being built for 18 months. 

Color Hybrid receives ‘Ship of the Year 2019’ title

The world’s largest plug-in hybrid vessel, Color Hybrid, received the title of ‘Ship of the Year 2019’. Ulstein Group CEO Gunvor Ulstein received the Award from HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway, during the Nor-Shipping exhibition on 4 June 2019. It will feature a battery package of 4.7 MWh, thus being able to travel 12 nautical miles only on battery power, charged with shore power in Sandefjord.

Between the 15th of June 2018 and the 15th of April 2019, Stena Edda went from blueprint to a floating vessel. This video depicts the full transformation in just three minutes. 302 blocks with a total weight of more than 9,350 tonnes of steel were recorded during the process.

Watch: Launch of expedition cruise ship ‘Celebrity Flora’

Shipyard De Hoop published a video depicting the launch of Celebrity Cruises’ new expedition cruise vessel ‘Celebrity Flora’. The ship was launched in Lobith-Tolkamer, the Netherlands and is set to make its first sailing on May 26, 2019. ‘Celebrity Flora’ will go to Rotterdam in a few weeks, in order to undergo the final works, which include the construction on the upper deck.

UK’s new polar ship launched

The RRS Sir David Attenborough, the new polar research ship for Britain, was launched into the River Mersey, on Saturday July 14. The ship is being built at Cammell Laird shipyard in Birkenhead, near Liverpool. Once the ship becomes fully operational in late 2019, it  will be operated by British Antarctic Survey
