Key challenges for shipping emissions regulations in 2018

Julien Dufour, CEO, Verifavia Shipping, talked to GREEN4SEA about the major industry developments and challenges ahead with respect to the emissions regulatory framework. Enforcement of sulphur regulations, in combination with the coming into force of two emission monitoring systems, the EU MRV and the IMO DCS, are expected as the major challenges for shipping companies in 2018, according to Mr. Dufour.

StormGeo gets EU MRV certification

StormGeo's shipping division announced that it has received its certification as an EU MRV supplier by Verifavia Shipping. Under its decision to monitor CO2 emissions from shipping, the EU requires ship-specific monitoring plans to be in place by August 31, 2017, including being compliant for Monitoring, Reporting and Verification.

EU MRV Implementation

Nikolas Theodorou, Verifavia Shipping (Hellas) reminds that the Monitoring Plan is a mandatory requirement according to Article 6 of the EU MRV Regulation, and that it must be submitted to an independent accredited verifier before 31st August 2017 for assessment. The plan which compiles all the information on how the ship’s MRV system works, must be complete, accurate, relevant, and compliant.
