BIO-UV is undergoing the process of USCG Type Approval

  BIO-UV has started the process of USCG Type Approval for its BIO-SEA B BWTS. Land-based and shipboard tests are currently underway. The original design has been retained, due to its efficient and relevant technology, and some technical improvements have been made.  BIO-SEA is already IMO approved since 2013 and AMS accepted since 2014. The entire USCG certification is performed by the independent Lab DNV and the certified DHI laboratory. Land-based tests are held in Denmark at the DHI test facilities. For the shipboard tests, BIO-UV has equipped a container-ship (TEU capacity 8465) from the third-largest container shipping company worldwide CMA-CGM with a BIO-SEA B 1050 system. The BIO-SEA B BWTS will be USCG type approved for all water qualities (marine, brackish and fresh), at low UV transmittance! Alfa Laval PureBallast now available to smaller vessels

  The proven capabilities of Alfa Laval PureBallast – which include operation in fresh, brackish or marine water and in low-clarity water with just 42% UV transmittance – are now available to significantly smaller vessels. Alfa Laval’s ballast water treatment technology, which was submitted for USCG approval in March 2015, can now be used in systems for flows of 87 m3/h. A variety of vessel types, including offshore supply vessels, will benefit from the extended PureBallast flow range. The lower capacities are enabled by a new reactor, optimized for system sizes from 170 m3/h down to 87 m3/h. Many ship owners question UV based solutions due to so called “live versus dead” issue”. USCG has however the ability to accept alternative test methods like the MPN, widely used for UV based systems.   Alternate Management System (AMS) is only an interim solution. It is not a USCG type approval.  Trojan Marinex was  the first company to apply in the world for USCG type approval. NSF to Begin Testing of Evoqua SeaCURETM BWTS Toward USCG Type Approval

Evoqua BWMS, already IMO type approved and USCG AMS accepted for use in all salinities, progresses to testing for USCG full type approval evaluation NSF independent testing completion anticipated by fall 2015 SeaCURE BWMS system based on proven, widely deployed Chloropac® marine growth prevention system technology  The NSF International Independent Laboratory (IL) will begin testing of Evoqua Water Technologies’ SeaCURETM ballast water management system (BWMS) in preparation of US Coast Guard (USCG) full type approval. The SeaCURE BWMS system has already received IMO type approval and USCG alternate management system (AMS) acceptance for capacities of 300-4,000 m3/h in all salinities. NSF testing is anticipated to be complete by fall 2015. NSF is the first IL to be accepted by the USCG for BWMS testing and is leading a partnership including Retlif Testing Laboratories, the Maritime Environmental Resource Center (MERC) and the Great Ships Initiative (GSI) to test and evaluate BWMS systems for USCG requirements.
