New US bill addresses sexual harassment in transportation

US Congressman Peter DeFazio introduced the “Stop Sexual Assault and Harassment in Transportation Act,” that requires passenger airlines, railroads, transit agencies, operators of passenger vessels, and certain bus companies, to prescribe formal policies on sexual harassment of employees and passengers in transportation.

New York advances bill banning offshore drilling

New York’s Governor Andrew M. Cuomo announced the ‘Save Our Waters’ bill. This bill aims to prohibit the leasing of lands, including underwater lands, for offshore drilling and exploration, and drilling infrastructure in New York State waters. In January 2018, the US government proposed to make more than 90% of the total offshore acreage in the US available to oil and gas drilling.

US introduces legislation to protect its coasts from oil spills

US Senators introduced the Clean Coast Act, a legislation aiming to address key safety recommendations made after the Deepwater Horizon disaster, to protect US coasts from oil spills. In particular, the bill codifies the Blowout Preventer Systems & Well Control Rule and the Arctic Drilling Rule.
