The CEOs of Occidental Petroleum Corporation, NuStar Energy, Buckeye Partners, Howard Energy Partners, Plains All American Pipeline and Cheniere Energy asked President Donald Trump to fund $60 million for deepening and widening of the Corpus Christi Channel, in order to meet the increasing oil and gas demand from the US.
In October 2017, crude oil exports from the US reached a monthly record of more than 1.7 million barrels per day, with the largest increases in US crude oil exports being to Asia, followed by Europe, according to US EIA’s Petroleum Supply Monthly data.
Trafigura announced the signing of a long-term commitment with Plains All American Pipeline, for the transport of 300,000 barrels of crude oil per day from the Permian Basin to the port of Corpus Christi, Texas.
In 2017, natural gas spot prices at the national benchmark Henry Hub in Louisiana averaged $3.01 per million British thermal units, about 50 cents per MMBtu higher than in 2016. The higher prices in 2017 contributed to less consumption and increased domestic production was offset by increased exports of natural gas by pipeline and LNG cargoes, according to EIA.
Ryan Zinke, Secretary of the US Department of the Interior, announced that Florida will be excluded from the recent US plan to further exploit offshore oil and gas. The decision to exempt Florida from the offshore oil and gas exploitation proposal, was made after Florida’s Governor, Rick Scott, request.
The US and Portuguese delegations highlighted progress made in the bilateral energy relationship that could bring lower energy prices, more jobs, enhancement of Europe’s energy security and emissions reduction from the shipping sector.
Finnish technology company Wärtsilä informed that it will equip a new articulated tug barge, that will be used to supply LNG fuel to cruise ships along the east coast of Florida, USA. This will be the first fueling barge with a Wärtsilä solution operating in US waters.
The US Trade and Development Agency, in cooperation with LNG Allies, launched the U.S. Gas Infrastructure Exports Initiative. This Initiative aims to connect American companies to new export opportunities across the gas value chain in emerging economies.
INEOS announced the agreement with SP Chemicals for the delivery of ethane from US shale gas to China. The agreement will see US ethane from shale gas shipped to China for the first time.
Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd announced that its US shipyard, VT Halter Marine will build an offshore Liquefied Natural Gas Articulated Tug and Barge unit to be chartered by Shell.
