US government shutdown affects COFR applications

Ports of Los Angeles, Long Beach face extreme congestion

Due to unprecedented pre-Lunar New Year inbound volumes, Los Angeles and Long Beach ports are experiencing extreme congestion, APL reported. The volume increase is creating many problems such as port delays, increased dwell times and terminal congestion. To deal with the severe congestion and enable better cargo flow, operators are called to: Pick up containers as soon as possible, after they have been discharged; Timely return of the chassis, to avoid chassis shortage for yourselves and others.

Port of Port Hedland achieves record tonnage on a single tide

Pilbara Ports Authority reported a new record tonnage on a single tide at the Port of Hedland. Namely, on 15 January 2019, 10 vessels left the port in convoy carrying a total of 1,754,741 tonnes of bulk product, surpassing the previous record from December 2017 by 165,680 tonnes. Before that, an Expression of Interest has been completed for the building and operation of a new general cargo facility at the Port of Port Hedland.

New barge to be built at Portland

Overseas Shipholding Group, a provider of energy transportation services for crude oil and petroleum products in the US , exercised an option to build a second 204,000 barrel Oil and Chemical ATB Barge at Gunderson Marine’s Portland, Oregon facility. The barge is planned to be delivered in the second half of 2020, complying with the latest safety and environmental requirements.

US judge halts Atlantic seismic oil permitting due to gov shutdown

A federal court judge issued, on January 18, that the federal government can not process seismic testing permits for offshore drilling during the ongoing government shutdown, according to Reuters. The decision was ruled in response to motion filed by a range of conversation and business groups that are opposed to the administration’s efforts to expand U.S. offshore drilling.
