Addressing ESG factors can help organizations manage their environmental and social imprint and determine their business risks and opportunities. In addition, the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are increasingly being recognized as a beneficial framework for responsible investment as the business world shifts its focus more intensively on ESG.

To celebrate the first International Day for Women in Maritime, Maritime UK is launching the brand-new Global Women in Maritime Series. The Maritime Minister has welcomed the initiative, which will open up global dialogue on best practices and lessons learned from being women in maritime on either side of the world. 

"Training-Visibility-Recognition: Supporting a barrier-free working environment” is the theme of the first International Day for Women in Maritime with the aim to highlight and celebrate the achievements of women in maritime and achieve gender balance. IMO is marking the occasion with a virtual symposium, the release of a women in maritime report and a social media campaign.

Ahead of the IMO International Day for Women in Maritime on 18 May, IMO Secretary-General, Kitack Lim, sent a strong message expressing his gratitude and appreciation for all the women that keep the industry going forward all these years.

On Earth Day, April 22, the Montreal Port Authority (MPA) joined the United Nations Global Compact, a global initiative focused on developing, implementing and promoting good corporate sustainability practices.
