Carriers to reduce ULCV impact by delaying deliveries

Carriers will be able to limit the capacity inflation of the ultra large container vessels (ULCVs) that are to arrive the following years by delaying deliveries and slowing services, according to Drewry. According to the current orderbook, the overall number of orders is approximately 460.000 TEU for 2019, whereas Drewry predicts that in 2020 the calls will reach about the 620.000 TEU, reaching a record.

Barzan, the first in a series of six 18,800 TEU container vessels ordered by UASC, was recently launched at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI) in Mokpo, South Korea. The vessel is the first to receive classification society DNV GL’s new GAS READY notation. Her five sister ships, as well as eleven 15,000 TEU vessels of UASC’s newest eco-ship generation, will be given the GAS READY notation as well With a loading capacity of 18,800 TEU, the DNV GL classed vessel M.V. ‘Barzan’ is first in a new class of leading ultra-large container vessels that will be the largest in UASC’s fleet to date and will set new standards for fuel and energy efficiency, due to optimized vessel design and an array of propulsion and equipment efficiency technologies.   United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) named the industry’s most eco-efficient container vessel at Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), Mokpo South Korea. M.V. ‘Barzan’ is a part of the industry’s first LNG-ready ultra-large container vessel fleet. With a loading capacity of 18,800TEU, the DNV GL classed vessel M.V. ‘Barzan’ is first in a new class of leading ultra-large container vessels that will be the largest in UASC’s fleet to date and will set new standards for fuel and energy efficiency, due to optimized vessel design and an array of propulsion and equipment efficiency technologies. UASC names LNG-ready Ultra Large Container Vessel

United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) named the industry’s first ever LNG-ready ultra large container vessel.  MV “Sajir” is the first vessel in UASC’s current newbuilding program, comprising 17 of the world’s most eco-efficient vessels. With a capacity of 15,000 TEU (A15), the DNV GL classed vessel is the largest and most eco-efficient vessel in this capacity range. Preliminary calculations indicate an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) value that is close to 50% below the 2025 limit established by the IMO. MV “Sajir” will start operating on the Asia–North Europe route after delivery. Ten further A15 vessels and six 18,800 TEU (A18) box ships will be delivered from Hyundai Heavy Industries and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries to UASC by mid-2016. Speaking at the naming ceremony in Ulsan, H.E.
