The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) has ordered Russia to 'immediately' release 24 Ukrainian sailors who were seized along three naval ships off Crimea in November. Meanwhile, Moscow claims the sailors violated its maritime border.

According to marine insurance provider Gard, Ukraine announced some changes at the ballast water regulations in its ports. The control of segregated ballast in Ukrainian ports has been cancelled and ecological inspectors are no longer permitted to inspect vessels for the purposes of 'ecological control', including taking and analyzing samples of ballast water.

South Korea's Posco Daewoo agreed with Ukraine’s logistics company OREXIM to jointly develop and manage a grain terminal, placed in the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Mykolayiv, Ukraine. The terminal, which is due to start operations in July, has a grain loading capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per year.

Lithuania's LNG import terminal, 'Independence', is expected to double its LNG volumes after the opening of gas pipelines to Poland and Finland, 2021. The pipeline opening will turn the Baltic Port into a regional hub. 'Independence' mostly imported Norwegian LNG for domestic use, using a fifth and a third of its annual capacity of 2.7 million tonnes of LNG, after changing in 2017, along with its first US cargo import.

Ukraine has acceded to the 1988 Protocol relating to the International Convention on Load Lines. On Wednesday, November 5, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine, agreed with IMO to deposit the instruments of accession. The 1988 Load lines Protocol now has 110 Contracting States, representing more than 97% of world merchant shipping tonnage.

Ukraine announced that it resumes grain shipments from the Azov Sea, which was blocked for about 10 days, due to a military tension with Russia in the Kerch Strait. Ukraine also imposed martial law on November 26, in some regions, because of the situation with Russia.
