China Classification Society awarded China’s first certificate of type approval for a marine fuel cell product to Wuhan-based Troowin Power System Technology Co.

ERMA FIRST has received an amended Type Approval from the China Classification Society (CCS) for its strong-selling FIT range of ballast water management systems and awarded Certificate under the Authority of the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

The Coast Guard’s Office of Operating and Environmental Standards has published a final Policy Letter concerning the use of multiple Independent Laboratories for evaluating Ballast Water Management Systems (BWMS).

In its February 2020 newsletter, the Korean Register informs that the cyber security type approval has been developed based on international standards such as ISA 62443 4-2, IEC 61162-460, and inspect cyber security level and function of cyber systems including remote access equipment; integrated control and monitoring systems on board the ship. The security requirements and their levels are verified on 12 categories and 124 requirements.

The US Coast Guard Marine Safety Centre issued the 15th Coast Guard Ballast Water Management System type approval certificate to De Nora Balpure for its BALPURE® ballast water treatment system (BWTS). The BALPURE system has been approved for both safe area and hazardous zone installations for internationally trading vessels including US-Flagged vessels. 

The US Coast Guard Marine Safety Centre issued the 14th Coast Guard Ballast Water Management System type approval certificate to Panasia Co., Ltd., for its GloEn-Patrol BWMS. It also received the 22nd application from Semb-Eco LUV U1 Ballast Water Management System manufactured by Semb-Eco Pte, Ltd. 

The US Coast Guard Marine Safety Center received its 21th application for type approval for the Cathelco Evolution Ballast Water Management System manufactured by Cathelco Ltd. During the last GREEN4SEA Conference, Mr. Juha Kiukas, Sales Director, Trojan Marinex, noted that the BWMS market is currently becoming more mature and around 20 Type Approvals may be expected up to 2019.

DNV GL developed the first type approval scheme for the use of aluminium cables and connectors onboard vessels. Aluminium cables have been tested in a pilot installation onboard the Olympic Artemis, a multi-purpose offshore support vessel. The survey indicated perfect connections and DNV GL granted the type approvals.

DHI's land-based testing of BWMS will continue only in Denmark. The land-based testing requirements in the regulations pose an increasing challenge to successful type approval testing in tropical environments, which is further affected by the challenging local biological conditions in Singapore waters.
