Steel cut for Middle East's first LNG harbor tug

Wartsila launches new innovative AHTS vessel design

  A new AHTS (Anchor Handling Tug Supply) vessel design is being launched by Wärtsilä at this year's Sea Asia exhibition held in Singapore from April 21 to 23. The focus of the new design is on simplicity, efficiency, low fuel consumption, and a reduced environmental impact. The equipment solutions are suitable for medium to large size AHTS vessels, where one of the key components is a 2-speed gearbox system selected to meet the design targets of reduced costs and less complexity without compromising operational safety. Wärtsilä estimates that the new design provides a reduction of 20 to 25 percent in fuel consumption compared to conventional diesel mechanical four engine solutions. The exhaust emissions are reduced accordingly. The hybrid 2-speed gearbox PTI (Power Take In) solution ensures a seamless transfer from one operational mode to another, with the ability to work efficiently in all operational modes. When changing propeller speeds, the arrangement produces no loss in PTO (Power Take Off) power. Bestobell supplies first LNG fuelled harbour tug in the Middle East

Bestobell Marine, part of the President Engineering Group (PEGL), has received a major new order from Wärtsilä Fuel Gas Handling Division (FGH), to supply the Middle East’s first LNG (liquefied natural gas) fuelled harbour tug. The order will see Bestobell Marine supply a complete set of cryogenic globe valves to be fitted in Wärtsilä’s LNG-Pac fuel gas systems for its new harbour tug design which will be built at Dubai Drydocks. The new tug will use LNG as the primary fuel and will be operated by Dubai Maritime City. Duncan Gaskin, Sales Director of Bestobell Marine, said: We are delighted to be working with Wärtsilä to supply valves to the Middle East’s first LNG fuelled harbour tug. An increasing number of vessels are being built using LNG as their primary fuel which presents great opportunities for our cryogenic valves.” United Arab Emirates-based TASNEEF, the Class Society for the project, will provide classification and advisory services for the LNG fuel project. Multraship welcomes energy efficient hybrid tug

  Multraship has welcomed Multratug 28, an energy efficient hybrid Damen ASD 2810-type tug with state-of-the-art FiFi 1 firefighting capabilities, into its fleet. Damen’s ASD 2810 Hybrid is a new design and this is the second of its class to be built. It features diesel-direct, diesel-electric and battery-powered propulsion systems. This hybrid configuration will enable Multraship to lower fuel costs by up to 30 percent and emissions by up to 60 percent. Multraship managing director Leendert Muller said, “This new tug will provide clean and energy-efficient harbour towage in the Zeeland Seaports and Antwerp areas. It will also be on standby for fire- or explosion-related emergencies in the western and central part of the River Scheldt and for offshore services. Damen delivers ASD 2810 Hybrid tug

Multraship, the Netherlands-based towage and salvage specialist, recently took delivery of a Damen ASD 2810 Hybrid tug vessel, built at Damen Shipyards Galaţi, in Romania. The delivery is part of Multraship’s current fleet expansion programme, which involves a number of Damen vessel orders. The ASD 2810 Hybrid adds to an already extensive fleet of tugs operated by Multraship. Multraship has its headquarters in the harbour city of Terneuzen and operates in the ports around the Scheldt estuary at Zeeland Seaports and the Ports and Ghent and Antwerp, as well as the Bulgarian Port of Burgas on the Black Sea. Damen’s new ASD 2810 Hybrid is a new design and this is the second of its class to be built. It is a timely concept, offering a much sought after fuel and emission efficient performance.
