Transport insurer TT Club and supply chain intelligence firm BSI issued their annual Cargo Theft report, highlighting significant new trends in risks both regionally and globally. Thefts of cargo in transit remained the highest proportion of total (71%). By modalities of theft, shipping accounted for less than 1% of global cargo thefts. 

TT Club, International freight transport and logistics insurer, warns cargo owners to be aware of the safety issues around the poorly packed containers and misdeclared goods, urging them to make good practice within the supply chain part of their ESG (environmental, social and governance) policies.

TT Club provides information on how to export and trade goods between the UK and the EU amid Brexit, as many are the changes that followed after Britain's exit.

TT Club focuses on the ongoing phenomenon of container loss at sea, which leads to casualties and marine pollution. Thus, the Club comments that "being aware of this multifaced threat, the container trade industry itself, in cooperation with government bodies and shipper associations, has continuously worked on addressing the problem."

TT Club highlights the vulnerability of quay cranes, other handling equipment and containers to major weather related incidents at marine terminals, commenting that it is a common phenomenon of cranes to be blown along the crane rails.

TT Club focuses on actions needed to reduce perishable cargo losses and refrigerated container failures and damage, as a recent analysis notes that the past three years  temperature controlled incidents ranked in third place.

TT Club along with BSI, the business improvement company, issued a report highlighting South Africa's ongoing vulnerability to cargo theft as well as the trends during the first half of 2020.

The target of 50% of all bills of lading to be electronic within the next decade has been set by the Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA) in an announcement made last week. TT Club welcomes this commitment.

Clandestine migration is an issue that attracts interest these days, with TT Club informing that except border disruptions, this issue poses a great risk of contamination and damage to goods. Now, 2019 closed with surging numbers concerning clandestine migration with each Brexit deadline, as smugglers anticipated the border becoming more secure after Brexit.
