The USCG Marine Safety Unit Portland issued an initial Certificate of Inspection to Tidewater Barge Lines’ towing vessel 'Crown Point' that operates out of Vancouver. This COI is the first of its kind on the US West Coast issued to a towing vessel, in accordance with Subchapter M. 

On 11 March 2017, the towing vessel 'Steve Plummer' was pushing three loaded barges on the Cumberland River, Tennessee. As the tow passed beneath the CSX Railroad Bridge at mile 190.4, the second and third barges allided with the bridge’s upstream guard pier. The two barges sustained damage.

The crew of the US Coast Guard Cutter 'Resolute' offloaded approximately 1 ton of marijuana Tuesday in St. Petersburg worth an estimated $2.2 million total wholesale seized during a 71-day deployment in international waters in the Caribbean Sea.

On the evening hours of 4 May, the tug 'AHT Carrier' was towing the tanker 'Order' off South Africa, when her tow line parted and fouled her propeller. This marks the first COI to be issued in accordance with the Subchapter M towing vessel regulations, according to USCG Office of Commercial Vessel Compliance.

'Maersk Honam' will eventually be towed to Port of Jebel Ali, Dubai, where cargo will be off-loaded. The estimated time of arrival is in approximately two weeks, according to MSC. The US Coast Guard informed that it is currently responding to a report of a sunken towing vessel at mile marker 832 of Everett Lake near Dyersburg, Tennessee, on Tuesday, March 6. Watchstanders at US Coast Guard Sector Lower Mississippi River received a report, informing them that the motor vessel "Ms Nancy C", was in the process of building a tow at a fleeting area when it started taking on water.
