Lebanon's Council of Ministers gave the green light on the launch of the Second Offshore Licensing Round on April 4. The Council has invited companies to issue their bids for the available acreage. According to Petroleum-Geo Services, a Norwegian seismic company, the interested parties are to submit their applications for Blocks 1, 2, 5, 8 and 10 before the 31st January 2020. 

Unite Scotland offshore members employed by Aker and Petrofac voted for industrial action on the Elgin-Franklin, Shetland Gas Plant, North Alwyn, and Dunbar offshore platforms, protesting against the proposed rota changes from 2:3 to 3:3.

Total, Ørsted and Elicio issued a joint bid for the Dunkirk offshore wind farm project in France, aiming to a power capacity up to 600 MW, on February 18. The bid is Total's first official entrance in offshore wind and an additional step to sustainability.

CNOOC Limited has announced it made a new discovery on the Glengorm prospect, located in offshore UK Central North Sea. Along with the Chinese oil company, French-based Total S.A. followed, announcing its new significant discovery in the North Sea offshore UK, on the Glengorm prospect located in the Central Graben.

Four major oil and gas firms have proven gas and condensate in the Norwegian Sea Ragnfrid North (6406/2-9 S) exploration well. Norwegian oil major Equinor and compatriot Petoro, US-based giant ExxonMobil and French Total, estimate recoverable resources at 6-25 million barrels of oil equivalent.

Norway granted 83 blocks to explore for petroleum resources in the Norwegian continental shelf. The number of the blocks offered is a record, something that indicates a rising interest from oil companies in Norway’s oil sector. Equinor received the majority, with 13, while Aker BP and Lunding received 11 and 9 operatorships respectively.

Italian oil major Eni and French energy major Total signed an agreement with Algeria’s state-owned oil company Sonatrach, for offshore exploration in the North African country. In parallel, Eni and Total will also pursue obtaining exploration permits that will allow for the rapid completion of the hydrocarbon potential assessment.

On Friday, oil majors Equinor, Shell and Total, submitted an application for an exploitation permit for a subsea reservoir for injection and storage of CO2, under the 'Northern Lights' project . This was the very first time the authorities have announced a licensing round for injection and storage of CO2.

DNV GL and French oil major Total have initiated a joint industry project in cooperation with several industry partners to explore how hybridization in tanker shipping and, specifically, auxiliary engines on small tankers, can reduce operational costs and improve environmental performance. 

Global conventional exploration farm-in/farm-out activity has reduced by around two thirds from 2012 to 2017, in line with the reduction in overall drilling activity, according to research by Westwood Global Energy Group. As activity levels have fallen, so have deal terms and costs.
