The planning stage for the installation of a wave energy farm prototype has been reached in the island of Texel in the Netherlands, as part of a research project aiming to make the island more sustainable through wave energy. The Slow Mill wave pilot project which was invented by Erwin Croughs aims to install five or six Slow Mills and potentially create a wave energy farm.

The Logistics Alliance, an association consisting of private companies, sector organisations and infrastructure managers, as the Port of Rotterdam Authority launched a programme to boost the national and international transport and storage of cargo.

Port of Rotterdam's throughput in 2018 resulted to 469.0 million tonnes, a little bit higher than 2017. Container transhipment reached a 4.5% increase in tonnage, whereas measured in TEUs, the standard unit for containers, increased by 5.7% and the annual total was 14.5 million TEUs.

Eneco and Vattenfall will place an enhanced version of the Slufterdam wind farm into service. The 17 wind turbines in the farm that have been supplying energy since 2002, have been replaced by 14 more efficient wind turbines. Consequently, the power has almost doubled from 25.5 MW to 50.4 MW. The 14 wind turbines generate 180 GWh of electricity every year, enough to cover the annual consumption of around 60,000 households.

The logistics sector aims by 2040 to make transport over short distances on roads and inland waterways emission-free. These and other intentions are described in 'Vision trade and logistics 2040', a joint long-term vision of 19 organizations from the logistics sector to prepare the logistics system in the Netherlands for the future.
