In 2018, cargo handling turnover in Klaipeda Seaport exceeded 46 million tons, marking a record in the entire history of the port. The Port estimates that this result is to contribute to the Lithuanian State budget by more than EUR 800 million.

The Port of Savannah reached the record of 4.32 million TEUs in 2018, experiencing an increase by 7.5% in comparison to 2017. Specifically, in December the port handled 351.366 TEUs, a rise by 8.7% that is equal to 28.250 TEUs, according to  a report from Georgia Ports Authority press release.

Belgium's Port of Antwerp issued its annual figures for 2018 revealing growth in all cargo types, as well as a major wave of investments. With a growth of 5.2% compared to 2017, the forecasts for a 6th consecutive year record were confirmed. The total transshipment in 2018 was 235.2 million tonnes.

Port of Hamburg’s terminal operator Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG announced the expansion of its rail terminal. Namely, two extra tracks and two new rail gantry cranes have been added to the rail terminal at the Container Terminal Burchardkai. Now the rail terminal has ten tracks, instead of eight, while the longest trains permitted can be processed on every track.

PSA Singapore has signed an agreement with the Japanese ocean carrier Ocean Network Express (ONE) during December. According to the agreement, ONE will operate four mega container berths in Singapore, cementing Singapore as a global maritime power.

For terminals in the world’s biggest port cities, adapting to the mega container ships constitutes a major challenge. Namely, according to Jan-Olaf Probst, Director Business Development DNV GL, terminals must have the capability to deal with peak workloads, and handle large numbers of containers in a short period of time.

Annual cargo throughput exceed 1 billion tonnes at Ningbo Zhoushan port in east China's Zhejiang Province in 2018. With this, the Port became the world's first to surpass such volume. The annual container throughput at the port achieved a record of 26 million standard containers.

The Port of Los Angeles moved more cargo in 2018 than any time in its history, racking up 9,458,749 TEUs. This is an increase of 1.2% than 2017’s record-breaking year. It is the third year in a row that the Port achieves record volumes. In December, the Port processed 903,258 TEUs, which constitutes the busiest December.

The imports at the nation's major retail container ports have experienced a slow down after a months-long rush to beat increased tariffs on goods from China as reported by the monthly Global Port Tracker report released today by the National Retail Federation and Hackett Associates.

At the end of 2018, South Carolina Ports Authority reported 6.4% year-over-year container volume growth, with a record 2.3 million twenty-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) handled in the past year. The 2018 marked the third consecutive calendar year of record TEU volume for the Ports Authority.
