Bunker sales in the Port of Singapore increased by 10.2%, says an infographic about October’s 2020 port performance, paying attention to key port indicators as the vessels that arrive, the container and cargo throughput, as well as bunker sales.
In line with a trend of decreasing port volumes in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Northwest Seaport Alliance, including the ports of Tacoma and Seattle, handled 270,388 TEUs in July 2020, a 17.2% decline compared to July 2019. Full imports declined 15.9%, while full exports decreased 23.4%.
The Port of Los Angeles moved 581,665 TEUs in May, a 29.8% decrease compared to last year’s record-setting May, said Port Executive Director Gene Seroka in a news briefing. Five months into 2020, overall cargo volumes have decreased 18.6% compared to 2019.
Port of Hamburg, Germany’s largest universal port, saw seaborne cargo throughput in the first quarter of the year at 31.9 million tons, representing a 7.9% drop on 2019, as a result of the COVID-19 crisis.
Ningbo-Zhoushan Port plans to raise $1.6 billion in order to upgrade its facility. Specifically, the port will expand six container terminals which are estimated to increase its annual handling capacity to more than 32 million TEU from 5.6 million TEU during 2020.
Infrastructure Australia, the country’s independent infrastructure adviser, stressed the need for “a network of deep water ports” along the East Coast to accommodate large ships that are currently unable to visit due to port constraints, marking the issue as a “priority initiative”.
Port of Los Angeles, the largest container port in the US, is forecasting a 25% drop in container volumes in February, as a result from the major disruptions brought by the coronavirus outbreak in shipping trade all over the world.
Hamburg-based Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) reported an increase in container throughput, with 7.6 million standard containers (TEU) handled at its container terminals in the 2019 financial year. HHLA increased its revenue by 6.8% to € 1.38 billion in the 2019 financial year.
HAROPA, the port complex of Le Havre, Rouen and Paris, saw a 5% drop in maritime traffic in 2019, with a total of 90 million tonnes of maritime traffic over the year. However, the bulk and container sectors grew by 13% marking the best figure since 1992.
Batangas Container Terminal (BCT) has achieved its the highest container throughput it has handled since the beginning commercial operations in 2010. Overall, the BCT handled over 310,000 TEUs.
