MPA Singapore issued its port-performance for October 2019, focusing on key port indicators, such as the number of vessels arriving, the container throughput, the cargo throughput and the bunker sales. Generally, October saw an increase in vessel arrivals and container throughput, but a decrease in cargo volumes and bunker sales.
Hutchison Ports has celebrated its 50th anniversary by announcing that it has become the world’s first port operator to achieve a cumulative global throughput of 1.3 billion TEU. The port’s achievement was announced at a cocktail reception in Hong Kong.
Container throughput in ports of Latin America and the Caribbean increased by 7.7% in 2018 compared to 2017, according to data provided by UN ECLAC. This analysis is based on the performance of a sampling of 31 countries and 118 ports and port areas in the region.
As trade volumes continue to increase, the world’s busiest ports continue to grow larger and more efficient to meet demand. In just the last four years, the median annual volume of the top 50 ports jumped from 5.49 to 5.86 million TEUs. The World Economic Forum, in cooperation with Visual Capitalist, issued an infographic depicting the world’s busiest ports.
