The Panamanian-flagged tanker 'Pantalena' has docked at a port in Togo, after missing for over a week along with its 19 crew, the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday. Contact with the ship was lost on 14 August, while it was sailing about 17 miles off Gabon, in the Gulf of Guinea.

The tanker 'STI Poplar' collided with a dock in the Port of Ploce in Croatia. The ship was carrying oil and caused significant damage to the port, causing its liquid cargo terminal to be inoperable. As a result of the collision, part of the quay wall and the unloading infrastructure fell into the sea.

UK MAIB reported a collision between the UK registered container ship, ANL Wyong, and an Italian registered LPG tanker, King Arthur, approximately 4 miles south east of Gibraltar. Both vessels suffered damage, but no injuries or pollution were reported. UK MAIB will initiate an investigation into the incident.

The Okeanis crude oil tanker 'Kimolos' sustained damages to its hull after contacting bottom while transiting Suez Canal on July 13. Okeanis Eco Tankers informed that there were no injuries or pollution from the incident. The vessel continued its transit under its own power, heading to a safe anchorage.

Crude oil tanker earnings have never been this bad. Earnings for Very Large Crude Carriers in the first half of 2018 were as low at USD 6,001 per day, with a Suezmax tanker earning USD 10,908 per day and an Aframax making USD 9,614 per day. In addition, the total crude oil tanker fleet has not increased at all in 2018.

The price of prime aged vessels is expected to rise over the next two years, according to VesselsValue. The contraction of yard capacity is expected to support the replacement value of ships, while short term earnings have either bottomed, or started to recover in most markets.

After the 'Bow Jubail' made contact with a jetty in the Port of Rotterdam on June 23, it ruptured the hull, spilling about 217 tons of heavy fuel oil. The port authority along with emergency services started mitigation measures and have a now cleaned a large amount of the oil spilled.

After the oil spill that was reported at the Port of Rotterdam, the port authority along with emergency services installed oil booms around the vessel as quickly as possible to prevent the further spread of the oil. The installation was successful but some of the oil had already spread beyond the incident area. 

While going to its assigned berth for loading, the 'Bow Jubail' made contact with the jetty and accidentally ruptured the hull, on June 23. As result, about 217 tons of heavy fuel oil were released from the fuel tank. The leakage has now stopped, and there is no risk of further spills. The company has established an Incident Investigation Team to identify the root courses.

The outlook for the global shipping sector for the next 12 months remains stable on the back of expected supply-demand improvements in the dry bulk and container shipping segments, says a new report by Moody's Investors Service. However, the outlook for the tanker segment is negative.
